Puppies, Puppies, and More Puppies!

A rescue happened after a man called the shelter during the June heat wave, when
temperatures soared into the 90’s with high humidity, saying he found a box full of puppies on a
remote back country road.

“No food, no water, no shade,” Laurie Bennett said.
When the puppies were brought to the shelter, “we started counting them,” she said. “Seven,
eight, nine – there were 11 in there!”

Most of the puppies were healthy, although a few had to be put on IVs due to dehydration.
“They couldn’t get out of the box, and the man who found them said the road was rarely used.”
Once the eight-week-old collie mix puppies received vet care, “We put out an emergency plea
on social media for fosters,” Laurie said, “asking if anybody could help because we didn’t have
the room here.”

One of the workers from the shelter ended up adopting a puppy, and three friends from the
Indiana Regional Medical Center each took one or two puppies home to help.
Laurie said the fosters told her they’d just help out the shelter and hold them until they needed
to bring them back in, and “then they all ended up adopting those puppies!”
